Continuing the trend of silent films, today's featured short is George Milies' A Trip to the Moon. George Milies was a French filmmaker and magician and used techniques from both of these fields to create unique special effects. This film is also noted for being the first motion picture with a story and narrative. All prior films were little more than minute-long exhibits of various scenes or portraits.
Enough talk. On with the show.
That's all for me for now, folks. Sorry for the lack of posts recently. School has kept me busy!

Well that was interesting! The camera technique seems strange, it appears they planted the camera in one spot and it never moved, probably the technology of the day did not allow the camera to be moved and all action had to be done within it's range of view. Good lesson on movie making in the very earliest years.
Strange as it is now, a stationary camera was pretty typical for those earliest days of filmmaking. Prior to the release of this film, all other films were barely a minute long and simply depicted a single scene, so a mobile camera was unnecessary. When Milies shot this film, he likely carried over with this technique as well, not realizing the potential to be had from different angles.
